Ukraine’s top security official Rustem Umerov met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and NSA Ajit Doval in New Delhi to discuss the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and prospects for lasting peace.

New Delhi: Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council Secretary Rustem Umerov held separate meetings with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval in New Delhi on Friday, focusing on prospects for achieving lasting peace in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Umerov, a close aide of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is on an official visit to India. During his discussions with NSA Doval, he provided a detailed briefing on the current frontline situation and shared assessments of the evolving security landscape in the conflict zone.
The Indian side reiterated its consistent position that the Ukraine conflict should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. Officials stressed the need for a peaceful settlement and continued engagement between the parties involved.
Following his meeting with Jaishankar, Umerov said the discussions covered the current situation on the ground, progress in negotiations, and broader prospects for a “just, lasting and sustainable peace” in Ukraine. He also noted that both sides reviewed bilateral cooperation and steps to implement agreements reached during earlier high-level engagements between India and Ukraine.
Jaishankar said on social media that the meeting involved discussions on bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on the ongoing conflict. He described the engagement as part of continued diplomatic dialogue between the two countries.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, NSA Doval also reviewed bilateral relations with Umerov and discussed the Russia-Ukraine conflict in detail. The Indian side reiterated its established position supporting a peaceful resolution based on negotiation and diplomacy.
Umerov expressed appreciation for what he described as an open and substantive dialogue with Indian officials. He said both sides shared an understanding of the importance of finding solutions that would ensure long-term stability and peace in the region.
The meetings come amid continued international diplomatic efforts to explore pathways toward ending the prolonged conflict, with India maintaining its emphasis on dialogue and peaceful resolution.
