Rohtak: In a dramatic twist to the ongoing investigation into the death of senior Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, a police officer probing corruption allegations against him, Assistant Sub-Inspector Sandeep Kumar died by suicide on Tuesday.

Sandeep Kumar, posted in the Cyber Cell in Rohtak, was found dead in a room near an agricultural field in Ladhot village on Tuesday. He shot himself with his service revolver. Before taking the step, he recorded a video statement and left behind a three-page suicide note.

“I am sacrificing my life for truth,” ASI Sandeep Kumar.

In the video, Kumar claimed that he was investigating a ₹2.5 lakh bribery case involving Y Puran Kumar’s gunman and a liquor contractor. He alleged that the bribe was taken after the contractor sought help from the IPS officer over a gangster’s threat.

Kumar claimed that when the bribery came to light, Y Puran Kumar tried to shield himself by turning the issue into a caste-based controversy.

“He committed suicide fearing the truth would come out. I am proud to stand with honesty,” said Sandeep in his video.

Sandeep Kumar's suicide note and video make serious allegations:

In both his suicide note and video, Sandeep Kumar levelled grave allegations against the late IPS officer, accusing him of orchestrating a network of deep-rooted corruption within the police force. He claimed that honest officers were systematically replaced with corrupt personnel, and that complainants were deliberately harassed through stalled files and demands for bribes. Kumar also alleged that women police personnel faced sexual exploitation in exchange for favourable postings and transfers.

“This is not about caste. He was corrupt. His assets must be probed. The truth must come out,” Sandeep wrote.

Sandeep Kumar also praised Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarnia, calling him an “honest officer.” Bijarnia was one of the 10 officers named in Y Puran Kumar’s suicide note, and has since been transferred.

The two consecutive suicides, one of a senior IPS officer and the other his subordinate, have thrown the Haryana Police into a credibility crisis.

While initial reports around Y Puran Kumar’s death focused on caste discrimination and mental health, Sandeep Kumar’s allegations paint a starkly different picture of high-level corruption and misuse of power.

The Haryana government has yet to respond officially.
