Thiruvananthapuram: Several trains will be diverted in January due to track maintenance works being carried out in the Madurai and Thiruvananthapuram railway divisions, authorities have said on Sunday.

The Guruvayur–Chennai Egmore Express (16128) will operate via Kottayam instead of Alappuzha from the 7th to 10th, 12th to 17th, 19th to 24th, and on the 26th and 27th of the month. The train will have stoppages at Kottayam, Changanassery, Thiruvalla and Chengannur. On the 4th, 7th to 11th, 16th to 18th, 21st to 24th, and 28th to 30th, the service will skip Madurai, Dindigul and Manapparai stations and run via Virudhunagar, Karaikudi and Tiruchirappalli.

The MGR Chennai Central–Thiruvananthapuram Central AC Superfast Express (22207) will be diverted via Kottayam on the 9th, 16th and 23rd. The train will stop at Ernakulam Town, Kottayam and Chengannur.

The Nagercoil-Mumbai CSMT Express (16352), Kanyakumari–Howrah Superfast Express (12666), Kanyakumari–Howrah SF Express (07229), and another Nagercoil–Mumbai Express (via Katpadi) (16340) will, on select days, skip Madurai and Dindigul stations and operate via Virudhunagar, Karaikudi and Tiruchirappalli.

Train services from Palakkad Division to be regulated in January

Further, several train services will also be regulated in the Palakkad Division in January 2026 following the approval of a Fixed Time Corridor Block.

According to railway authorities, Kollam–Charlapalli SF Sabarimala Special (07128), scheduled to depart Kollam at 2.30 am on January 12, 2026, will be regulated for about 15 minutes en route.

Similarly, Train No. 07106 Kollam–Narasapur SF Sabarimala Special, which is scheduled to leave Kollam at 2.30 am on January 13, 2026, will be regulated for approximately 20 minutes during its journey.

Railway officials said the temporary regulation is necessary to facilitate maintenance works under the Fixed Time Corridor Block and have advised passengers to plan their journeys accordingly.
