Satara: A disturbing incident has been reported from Satara city in Maharashtra, where a female traffic police officer was dragged for nearly 120 metres by an autorickshaw driven by a man allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

The officer, identified as Bhagyashree Jadhav, was on duty at a busy junction when she signalled the vehicle to stop for a routine check. The driver, later named as Devraj Kale, refused to comply—apparently apprehensive about being penalised for drunk driving—and instead attempted to flee.

CCTV footage from a nearby shop captured the harrowing moments, showing Ms Jadhav clinging to the moving autorickshaw as it dragged her along the road. The vehicle eventually stopped only after bystanders intervened, blocking its path and subduing the driver. They promptly rescued the officer and handed Kale over to the police. Ms Jadhav sustained injuries in the incident and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

Meanwhile, in a similar incident reported last month, a police officer was dragged for about 1 km while attempting to arrest a suspect in a speeding vehicle in in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district. The officer clung to the side of the car before being thrown off; the dramatic chase was captured on video and circulated widely on social media. The officer sustained only minor injuries since he was wearing a helmet.
