Chennai: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), IMD Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast isolated light rainfall in parts of southern Tamil Nadu, even as rising temperatures are expected to intensify hot and dry weather conditions across the state over the coming days.

Tamil Nadu weather forecast: Rain in South TN, dry conditions elsewhere

According to the latest weather bulletin, isolated areas in Kanyakumari district and parts of the Western Ghats region are likely to receive light rainfall on Sunday. Similar conditions are expected to continue between April 13 and April 17, with light showers possible in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli and adjoining hill regions.

However, most parts of Tamil Nadu, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, are expected to remain dry during this period.

Rising temperatures across Tamil Nadu, heat conditions to worsen

The weather department said there will be no major change in maximum temperatures on Sunday, but a gradual rise of 2–3°C is likely over the next few days across several districts.

From April 13 to April 15, temperatures are expected to climb further in isolated pockets, with many regions likely to record above-normal maximum temperatures.

The IMD also warned that interior districts of Tamil Nadu may experience increasing heat stress as dry conditions persist.

For Chennai and its suburbs, the forecast indicates continued hot and humid weather until at least April 13. Skies are expected to remain partly cloudy.

Maximum temperatures are likely to range between 36°C and 37°C, while minimum temperatures may hover around 27°C.

High humidity levels along coastal areas are expected to worsen discomfort for residents despite occasional cloud cover.

Heat advisory issued as humidity adds to discomfort

Officials have advised residents across Tamil Nadu to take precautions during peak afternoon hours as heat and humidity levels rise. While isolated rainfall in southern districts may provide brief relief, the overall trend indicates persistent warm and dry conditions across most regions of the state.
