NEW DELHI: Will rain play spoilsport during Delhi's Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort? The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast generally cloudy skies over the national capital on Saturday, with a spell of very light rain possible during the morning celebrations.

The IMD forecast specifically issued for the Red Fort area puts the minimum temperature at around 24-26 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is expected to remain between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius.

The weather is unlikely to bring significant rainfall in the early morning. According to the IMD, no significant rain is expected between 6 am and 7 am.

However, the chances of rain increase after that. A spell of very light rainfall measuring around 2-4 mm is likely between 7 am and 9 am, with a 50 per cent probability.

This means light rain could coincide with the morning Independence Day programme at the Red Fort, although the forecast does not indicate heavy rainfall during this period.

The IMD has also forecast another spell of very light rain, around 3 mm, between noon and evening, with a 60 per cent probability.

What is Delhi's weather like this morning?

As of 5.30 am on Saturday, Delhi was seeing generally cloudy skies with calm surface winds. No rain had been recorded in the early hours, according to the IMD.

The national capital is therefore set for a largely cloudy Independence Day, with the possibility of brief spells of very light rain rather than widespread heavy rainfall.
