Srinagar: Security agencies reported suspected drone intrusions along the International Border in Samba district and the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday evening, triggering a high alert and a response from Indian Army troops.

In Samba, a drone-like object was sighted near Keso Mahansan village in the Ramgarh sector, prompting authorities to activate countermeasures and enhance surveillance. Separately, another suspected drone was seen hovering for around ten minutes over Degwar village in Poonch at approximately 7:30 pm. Indian Army personnel fired a few rounds in an attempt to neutralise the object.

Officials said this was the third instance of suspected cross-border drone activity reported in the region over the past few days. Following the sightings, security forces intensified patrolling, area domination exercises and monitoring along sensitive stretches of the border.

The incidents came days after Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi said Pakistan had been put “on notice” over repeated unmanned aerial vehicle sightings along the Line of Control. He said India had conveyed through Director General of Military Operations-level talks that such activity was not acceptable.

General Dwivedi added that the Army remains fully alert and prepared to deal with any future provocations, as India continues heightened security operations along its western front. Further details on Thursday’s sightings are awaited as agencies continue to monitor the situation closely.
