Parts of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh are witnessing changing weather conditions with rain and thunderstorms forecast across several districts.

However, as of Wednesday, March 18, there has been no statewide announcement declaring school holidays in any of these states, even as parents remain alert for local advisories.

Tamil Nadu:

In Tamil Nadu, the Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning, particularly in districts along the Western Ghats and southern regions.

Some delta districts are also expected to receive moderate showers through Wednesday and Thursday.

Despite the weather activity, authorities have not ordered a blanket closure of schools across the state. Officials have instead advised parents and students to stay updated through school circulars and district-level announcements, as any decision to suspend classes may be taken locally depending on conditions.

Karnataka:

Meanwhile, Karnataka has already begun experiencing thunderstorm activity in several regions. Weather watchers reported intense but short-lived storms near Davanagere earlier this week, with lightning, gusty winds, and bursts of heavy rain.

Such pre-monsoon thunderstorms are typically localised and may not affect the entire state uniformly. As of now, the state government has not declared any statewide school holiday.

Parents have been asked to check directly with schools for updates, especially in areas prone to sudden weather changes.

AP:

In Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring Telangana, the India Meteorological Department has issued alerts for thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rainfall between March 17 and March 20. Wind speeds could reach up to 40–60 km/h during peak hours, raising concerns about safety during school commutes.

Rainfall has already begun in several districts, with the most intense spell expected over the next two days.

Alert:

However, no statewide closure of schools has been announced here either. Authorities have emphasised that any decision on holidays will likely be taken at the district or institutional level based on local conditions.

Overall, while weather activity is set to continue across parts of South India, schools remain open unless specific local orders are issued. Parents are advised to monitor official updates closely and prioritise safety, particularly in areas experiencing heavy rain, lightning, or strong winds.
