As military tensions escalate between India and Pakistan following an attempted missile strike by Pakistan on Indian military bases, multiple Indian states have initiated emergency protocols, including school closures, blackouts, and suspension of government staff leave.

The Leh administration on Friday announced that all schools in the district will remain closed on May 9 and 10 in view of the prevailing tensions between India and Pakistan, according to officials.

"All government and private schools in Leh district shall remain closed for the next two days," said Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Santosh Sukhdeva. This step has been taken in view of the prevailing situation, he said.

Pakistan’s attempted attack triggers high alert

The security measures were prompted by Pakistan’s failed missile assault targeting key Indian Air Force bases. Although successfully intercepted by Indian defences, loud explosions were reported across Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur, alarming residents.

Punjab: Schools closed in six districts

Punjab, which shares a 532-km border with Pakistan, is on high alert. The state government has:
