
Chennai: Heavy rains in northern Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, finally stopped on Wednesday, providing relief to residents. Chief Minister M K Stalin announced that relief work is ongoing in areas hit hardest by the downpour.
To support low-income families, the Chief Minister declared that food will be served free of charge at Amma canteens in Chennai on October 16 and 17. In a message posted on 'X', he assured that efforts are being made to assist those affected by the rains.

The Greater Chennai Corporation has set up relief centres for people living in low-lying areas, ensuring they receive food and other necessary support.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the depression over the Bay of Bengal is currently located about 360 km east-southeast of Chennai, 390 km east of Puducherry, and 450 km southeast of Nellore in Andhra Pradesh. "It is likely to move west-northwestwards and cross north Tamil Nadu - South Andhra Pradesh coasts between Puducherry and Nellore, close to Chennai during early morning of 17th October," the department said in a post on 'X.'
Chennai experienced intermittent heavy rains on Tuesday, but by late night, the rain finally stopped.
