Jaipur: Police in Kota detained a man after a video circulated online in which he allegedly threatened to kill Rahul Gandhi. The clip, which spread rapidly across social media on Thursday, prompted authorities to launch an urgent investigation into the threat.

Officers confirmed they had taken a man identified as Raja Amera into custody for questioning.

Video prompts swift police action

According to police, the video shows the man claiming affiliation with the Karni Sena while issuing threats directed at Congress MPs and Gandhi. He also referred to an alleged incident inside the chamber of Om Birla in Parliament.

Investigators said they moved quickly to detain the individual once the footage came to their attention. Interrogation is under way.

Accused claims video is fake

Following his detention, Amera denied recording the clip. He alleged that political opponents had fabricated a fake social media identity in his name. Describing himself as a “Sanatani Hindu,” he expressed support for India becoming a Hindu nation.

Police said the video features the man accusing 25 opposition MPs of misconduct in Lok Sabha and holding Gandhi responsible. He warns that if such behaviour occurs again, he would vandalise the homes of the MPs involved and “shoot” Gandhi at his residence, adding that he was willing to go to jail for the act.

The incident has sparked sharp political reactions in Rajasthan.

State Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasara condemned the threat, saying Gandhi was being openly targeted with death threats. He compared the mindset behind the clip to the ideology associated with Nathuram Godse, and accused the BJP and RSS of fostering extremism by labelling dissent as “anti-national”.
