New Delhi: Ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday urged all political parties to focus on national issues rather than dwelling on electoral defeats.
Speaking on the eve of the session, PM Modi said, “I urge all parties, in this winter session, that the panic of defeat should not become a ground for debate. As public representatives, we should handle the responsibility and expectations of the people of the country with utmost balance and responsibility, while thinking about the future.”
The Prime Minister also stressed that the session should centre on what the Parliament envisions for the country and the issues it wants to address for citizens’ welfare. “This session should focus on what this Parliament thinks about the country, what it wants to do for the country. The focus should be on these issues,” he said.
He called on the opposition to fulfill its parliamentary duties by raising “strong issues” while moving past any disappointment from recent election outcomes.
Bihar election results and opposition conduct
PM Modi referenced the recent Bihar Assembly election results, suggesting that some parties have struggled to accept their defeat. “They should overcome the disappointment of defeat. And unfortunately, there are some parties that are unable to digest the defeat. And I was thinking that since so much time has passed since the Bihar results came, they might have calmed down a bit. But from what I heard yesterday, it seems that defeat has troubled them,” he remarked.
The 6th Session of the 18th Lok Sabha and the 269th Session of the Rajya Sabha will officially begin today, December 1, and continue until December 19.
