Indian Railways is expected to roll out the beta version of its revamped IRCTC ticket booking website by mid-July. Here's what's changing, from faster bookings and easier captchas to improved seat availability checks.

The wait for a smoother train ticket booking experience may soon be over. Indian Railways is preparing to introduce a redesigned IRCTC website that promises quicker logins, a faster booking process and a cleaner interface aimed at reducing the frustration passengers often face during peak reservation hours.
The revamped platform, currently undergoing beta testing, is expected to be opened to the public around July 15, after technical issues identified during internal trials are addressed. The upgrade is designed to improve both speed and usability while simplifying several steps involved in booking railway tickets online.
New IRCTC website under beta testing
The redesigned booking portal has already been reviewed by senior railway officials and tested by students from the Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur, according to sources.
During the testing phase, reviewers reportedly identified a few technical glitches that are now being corrected. Once these issues are resolved, Indian Railways is expected to release the beta version for wider public access.
The move is part of an effort to modernise the online reservation experience and improve the efficiency of IRCTC's digital services.
What will change on the new IRCTC website?
The updated platform focuses on reducing booking time and making navigation easier for users. Several features have reportedly been redesigned to eliminate common pain points experienced by railway passengers.
Among the major improvements expected are:
- A cleaner, advertisement-free interface with a simplified design.
- A shorter and easier captcha to speed up login and payment verification.
- Seat availability across multiple classes, including Sleeper, 3AC and 2AC—displayed on a single screen instead of requiring separate searches.
- A streamlined booking flow with fewer steps to complete ticket reservations.
- Saved passenger details for frequent travellers, reducing the need to enter the same information repeatedly while booking future tickets.
Railway officials have also indicated that the beta version includes improvements in berth availability updates and a more seamless reservation process.
Why the website is being redesigned
IRCTC's existing booking portal has often drawn criticism from passengers for slow page loading, complicated captcha verification, repeated pop-up windows and delays during high-demand ticket booking periods, especially during Tatkal reservations.
The redesigned website aims to address these long-standing issues by making the platform faster, simpler and more user-friendly.
