Mumbai: In a rigorous enforcement effort, Mumbai traffic police have seized 290 electric motorbikes and registered cases against 221 riders during a special drive conducted from August 9 to 11. The campaign was designed to address rising concerns over road safety and the reckless behaviour of e-motorbike riders.
Over the course of the three-day drive, traffic authorities took action against 1,176 e-motorbikes, imposing fines totalling Rs 1.63 lakh on the offending riders. This initiative aimed to curb the increasing number of e-motorbike users who frequently breach traffic regulations and compromise public safety.

The drive targeted various traffic violations, including riding in no-entry zones, ignoring traffic signals, and riding battered-operated two-wheelers in the wrong direction. Specifically, 272 individuals were penalised for riding in the wrong direction, 491 for jumping traffic signals, and 252 for driving in no-entry zones.
Joint Police Commissioner (Traffic) Anil Kumbhare urged Mumbai residents to report any rule violations by e-motorbike riders or delivery executives using these vehicles.
