Mumbai: Maharashtra continues to grapple with heavy rainfall, disrupting life in Mumbai, Pune, Thane, and Raigad.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Orange and Red alerts for several districts, warning of more intense showers accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds in the coming days.

For the next 24 hours, the IMD has forecast “cloudy skies with heavy to very heavy rainfall” at isolated locations in Mumbai and its suburbs, along with the possibility of thunder, lightning, and wind speeds of 30–40 kmph, according to a civic official quoted by PTI.

Are Mumbai schools closed today?

Despite continuous downpours and strong winds, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has not announced a holiday for schools in Mumbai on September 16.

Institutions are expected to function normally unless fresh orders are issued. Parents, however, remain cautious, closely monitoring BMC updates, school WhatsApp groups, and media reports for the latest guidance—especially in flood-prone zones.

Pune schools shut on September 15

In contrast, Pune witnessed school closures on September 15 after heavy overnight rain led to waterlogging in parts of Hadapsar and adjoining areas.

Authorities have asked parents to remain alert for official updates on September 16 before sending children to school. While some localities experienced flooding, most major roads have since reopened, though commuters have been advised to travel carefully.
