Mumbai-Pune commuters are facing travel disruptions as Central Railway has cancelled and diverted several trains due to heavy monsoon damage on the Karjat-Lonavala ghat section. Passengers have been advised to check updates before travelling.
Central Railway has announced changes to train operations on the busy Mumbai-Pune route after heavy monsoon-related damage affected the Karjat-Lonavala section. The disruption has led to cancellations, diversions and short terminations of several trains until repair work is completed.
The affected stretch is undergoing urgent restoration work on the third railway line to ensure safer operations during the monsoon season. Authorities have asked passengers to confirm their train status before reaching stations such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Pune.

Key trains cancelled and diverted
Several popular services used by daily commuters and long-distance travellers have been affected. The Sinhagad Express and Deccan Express are among the major trains cancelled due to the repair work.
Other services, including the Intercity Express, have faced changes such as short termination or route diversion. Many long-distance trains are being redirected through alternative routes to avoid the difficult ghat section.
To maintain connectivity, some trains are being diverted through routes such as Daund, Manmad and Bhusaval. While these routes allow services to continue, passengers may experience longer travel durations.
Commuters travelling from Mumbai stations, including Dadar and CSMT, should expect possible delays and check updated timings before departure.
Railways advises passengers to check live updates
Central Railway has advised passengers to use the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) to track real-time train information. Travellers can also contact the railway helpline 139 for details about revised timings, platform changes and train status.
Passengers holding tickets for cancelled trains can apply for refunds through IRCTC for online bookings or through Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters for offline tickets.
Railway authorities are working to restore normal services after completing repairs on the damaged section. The restoration work is expected to continue until late July.
Until regular operations resume, commuters have been advised to plan additional travel time and consider alternative transport options, including state bus services, to avoid last-minute inconvenience.
