Meerut: Muskan, the woman jailed for the brutal murder of her husband, Saurabh Rajput, whose dismembered body was found hidden inside a blue drum filled with cement, delivered a baby girl at Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College on Monday evening, jail authorities said.

According to Senior Jail Superintendent Dr. Viresh Raj Sharma, Muskan was shifted from Meerut jail to the hospital around 11:30 pm on Sunday after her labour pains intensified.

Dr. Shakun Singh, head of the Obstetrics Department, confirmed that the newborn weighed 2.4 kg and was delivered through a normal birth. “Both mother and baby are healthy,” officials added.

Although the Prison Department informed Muskan’s family, no relatives visited her at the hospital.

Prison department ensured full medical protocol

Senior Jail Superintendent Sharma said Muskan had already been pregnant when she was arrested in March.

“ As per the system, all pregnant women who come from the prison are provided complete protocol, diet, medicines, ultrasounds, and counseling. She was also given all these facilities. All necessary provisions for the newborn will be provided by the Prison Department,” he said.

Given the sensitivity of the case, police tightened security around the hospital’s main gate and maternity ward, with officials continually updating medical and security records.

Inside the ‘blue drum’ murder case

Police said the murder that led to Muskan’s arrest was one of the most shocking cases reported in Meerut in recent years. According to the investigation, Muskan and her alleged lover, Sahil Shukla, killed her husband, Saurabh Rajput, on the night of March 4 at their Indiranagar residence by first drugging him and then stabbing him to death.

The duo then allegedly dismembered Saurabh’s body, severing the head and hands, before hiding the remains inside a blue plastic drum filled with cement to conceal the crime.

After disposing of the body parts, the two fled to Himachal Pradesh. Police later revealed that Muskan had been planning the murder since November 2023, believing Saurabh was standing in the way of her relationship with Sahil.

She reportedly confessed the crime to her family before her arrest on March 18, and investigators also recovered a piece of bone from a suitcase, which they say was linked to the pair’s initial plan to dump the body in luggage before opting for the blue drum.
