The incident comes amid a wider wave of distress among NEET aspirants across India

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra: A 19-year-old NEET aspirant allegedly died by suicide at his home in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, with police saying he left behind an emotional note addressed to his parents.
The deceased was identified as Suraj Subhash Shinde, a resident of Vaijapur taluk. He was preparing for the NEET examination and regularly studied in a room on the top floor of his house.
According to reports, Suraj's family had gone to attend a religious programme in the village. When they returned, they found his phone switched off. On going upstairs, they allegedly found him hanging in the room.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police said an alleged note found at the scene contained the message: "Sorry Aai and Appa… I will definitely become a doctor for you in the next life"
Vaijapur Police have begun an investigation and registered the case as an Accidental Death Report (ADR). Further investigation is underway.
The incident comes amid a wider wave of distress among NEET aspirants across India. The NEET-UG 2026 examination cycle has been overshadowed by reports of student suicides, amid concerns over psychological pressure, examination disruptions and intense competition following allegations surrounding paper leaks.
At least 12 NEET aspirants reportedly died by suicide within a 37-day period, between the initial cancellation of the examination on May 12 and the government-ordered retest on June 21, 2026.
