Mumbai: Maharashtra Cyber has issued a directive to online platforms like BookMyShow and Zomato, instructing them to print buyers' names on tickets for major events. This move aims to combat black marketing and ensure fair ticket distribution.

To further control the issue, attendees will now be required to present a government-issued ID along with their ticket for entry. This measure is part of a broader strategy to regulate ticket sales more effectively.

A white paper is set to be released, detailing the legal and technical measures that will help in the regulation of ticket sales and prevent illegal reselling.

Cyber Cell Chief speaks on issue

Maharashtra Cyber Cell Chief, Yashasvi Yadav, explained the rationale behind the directive. He said, "A major controversy arose during the Coldplay concert. Similarly, in high-profile cricket matches and concerts, a problem with online ticket sales was observed. Many people were hoarding multiple tickets and later reselling them at significantly higher prices through various platforms and social media."

This new initiative is expected to curb the growing issue of black marketing in the entertainment and sports sectors.
