New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has strongly condemned US President Donald Trump’s proposal to take control of Gaza, describing it as "bizarre" and "unacceptable." In a social media post, Ramesh criticised Trump’s views on the future of Gaza, calling the plan dangerous and completely flawed.
"President Trump's loud thinking on the future of Gaza is bizarre, dangerous, and totally unacceptable. A two-state solution that fulfills the completely legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people to lead a life in independence and dignity, and also ensures security for Israel, is the ONLY basis for sustainable peace in West Asia," Ramesh wrote on X.

He also urged the Indian government to make its stance clear on the matter, pointing out that other governments had already taken a position on Trump’s controversial proposal. “The Modi Govt. must make its position absolutely clear. Other Govts have done so already,” he added.
Global reaction to Trump’s Gaza proposal
Trump’s announcement that the United States would "take over" the Gaza Strip, dismantle dangerous weapons, rebuild the area, and work on its economic development has been met with widespread backlash. Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri labelled the proposal "ridiculous and absurd," warning that such ideas could escalate tensions and chaos in the region.
“Trump's remarks about his desire to control Gaza are ridiculous and absurd, and any ideas of this kind are capable of igniting the region,” Abu Zuhri stated, adding that Gaza’s people would resist such plans.
Hamas spokesperson Abdel Latif al-Qanou further criticised Trump’s stance, calling it a reflection of "the American racist stance" aligning with the Israeli extreme right in efforts to displace Palestinians and "eliminate our cause."
Palestinian leadership rejects Trump’s plan
The Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) also rejected Trump’s proposals, with Secretary-General Hussein al-Sheikh reiterating the PLO’s firm commitment to a two-state solution. "The Palestinian leadership affirms its firm position that the two-state solution, in accordance with international legitimacy and international law, is the guarantee of security, stability, and peace," al-Sheikh said in a post on X.
Riyad Mansour, leader of the Palestinian delegation to the United Nations, echoed this sentiment, stating that Palestinians in Gaza should be allowed to return to their "original homes" in Israel.
