Mangaluru: Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) apprehended 42,645 unauthorised travellers in the last month, collecting a total of ₹2.4 crore in fines and fare recovery, the corporation stated in a press release. These passengers were identified during 920 special ticket checking drives conducted across the Konkan Railway network.

Between April and September this year, KRCL carried out 5,493 such drives, registering 1,82,781 cases of unauthorised travel and recovering ₹12.81 crore, including fares and penalties.

KRCL has intensified ticket checking measures along its routes to prevent ticketless travel and ensure a safe and orderly journey for legitimate passengers. The Corporation reminded travellers that purchasing a valid ticket before commencing a journey is mandatory, as travel without one constitutes a punishable offence. Ticket checking operations will continue with heightened focus along the entire network.

The 920 special drives conducted in the last month alone detected over 42,000 passengers travelling without valid tickets, resulting in ₹2.4 crore collected in fines and fare dues.

KRCL’s data from April to September indicates a consistent crackdown, with 5,493 checking drives during this period leading to nearly 1.83 lakh unauthorised travel cases and over ₹12.8 crore in total recovery.

The Corporation emphasised that these measures are intended to maintain safety, order, and comfort for all passengers. Travelling without a valid ticket is not only illegal but also disrupts operations. KRCL has assured continued enforcement along its entire route, signalling that stricter monitoring and penalties will persist to discourage unauthorised travel.
