As the controversy over alleged irregularities in donations made to the Ayodhya Ram Temple gathers political momentum, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has raised a series of questions aimed at both the Uttar Pradesh government and central investigative agencies.

The former Delhi Chief Minister on Sunday asked why no FIR has been registered despite allegations that cash donations and jewellery offerings worth crores of rupees are unaccounted for. He also questioned the absence of raids or arrests, saying the matter concerns the faith of millions of devotees.

"The Ram Temple holds the faith of crores of Hindus. From that very Ram Temple, donations worth crores of rupees have been stolen, yet not a single FIR has been filed. Whom is the government protecting? No matter how big the people involved in this sin may be, throw them straight into jail," Kejriwal said in a post on X.

In a video message, Kejriwal suggested that powerful people could be involved and posed a direct question to the government: "What should be saved, the government or the faith of crores of people?"

The remarks are the latest in a growing political battle over allegations linked to donations made at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

SIT probe underway

Amid mounting scrutiny, the Uttar Pradesh government on June 14 constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) following a request from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir Trust.

The panel includes Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant, IG Kiran S and Finance Department Special Secretary Neel Ratan. The team has been tasked with examining the allegations and submitting its findings to the government.

Yogi urges people to wait for report

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has appealed to political parties and the public to avoid comments that could hurt devotees' sentiments while the investigation is in progress.

On June 19, he said people should wait for the SIT's report before drawing conclusions and indicated that findings were expected within the next few weeks.

The issue has become a major political flashpoint in Uttar Pradesh, with opposition parties stepping up attacks on the BJP government.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has also questioned the state's handling of the matter, alleging that corruption has become widespread and demanding greater accountability.
