IMD issues red alert for 7 Karnataka districts. Heavy rainfall expected Wednesday.

Bengaluru: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for seven districts in Karnataka, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall on Wednesday.
Red alert for coastal and Malnad regions
The districts under red alert include Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, and Kodagu.
While the weather is expected to slightly improve by Thursday in Dakshina Kannada, Hassan and Kodagu, these areas will continue to remain under an orange alert, indicating the likelihood of heavy rainfall.
Orange alerts for central Karnataka
On Wednesday, the IMD has also placed Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Davangere and Mysuru under orange alert.
For Thursday, Belagavi, Dharwad and Haveri will continue to be on orange alert.
Yellow alerts for Bengaluru and surrounding areas
Bengaluru Urban and Rural, Tumakuru, Ramanagar, Kolar, Chitradurga, Chikkaballapur, Koppal, and Bagalkot are under a yellow alert on Wednesday.
On Thursday, the yellow alert will extend to Bidar, Gadag, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, Chikkaballapur and Kolar, indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall in these regions as well.
Temperature to dip across the state
The IMD has predicted a drop in maximum temperatures by 2 to 3°C across Karnataka over the next five days. Additionally, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely to occur at isolated places in Coastal Karnataka, North Interior Karnataka, and South Interior Karnataka until 26 May.
