Good news for flyers! The long-awaited Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is finally expected to open by the end of September 2025, giving Mumbai a much-needed second international airport alongside the busy Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).

Located in Ulwe, near Panvel, NMIA will make travel easier for residents of Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Pune, who currently need to go all the way to CSMIA for most flights.

Two airlines are all set to kick off operations from NMIA, namely IndiGo and Akasa Air. IndiGo will lead the way with 18 daily flights to more than 15 domestic cities. By March 2026, it plans to scale up to 79 daily flights, including 14 international routes. By November 2026, IndiGo expects to cross 100 daily flights from NMIA.

Akasa Air will also use NMIA as a key hub for its growth. It will begin with over 100 weekly domestic departures, expanding to 300 domestic and 50 international weekly flights by November 2026. Akasa’s focus will be on building strong links to tier-II cities, offering better connectivity for smaller towns.

With these commitments, NMIA is expected to quickly rise as one of India’s busiest aviation hubs.

If you’re searching for flights from NMIA and can’t find them online, don’t worry. Airlines generally release flight schedules closer to the launch date. Once commercial operations officially begin, NMIA will start appearing in airline booking systems, travel websites, and ticketing apps.

For travellers, NMIA promises to ease congestion at Mumbai’s current airport, offer more domestic and international connections, and cut down travel time for people living in Navi Mumbai and nearby regions. With IndiGo and Akasa Air leading the way, passengers can look forward to more flight options, better connectivity, and a smoother travel experience starting later this year.
