Jaipur: Indian and Pakistani troops stationed on the border exchanged sweets near Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, to celebrate Diwali, continuing their tradition of goodwill during the festival. An official reported that Border Security Force (BSF) personnel offered sweets to Pakistani Rangers, who responded with "Happy Diwali" and their own treats.

The exchange occurred near the Zero Line, emphasising the spirit of peace between the two nations. BSF jawans in the desert area celebrated the Festival of Lights by lighting diyas at forward posts and distributing sweets, sending a message of unity and security to the nation. Women soldiers also contributed to the festive atmosphere by creating rangoli designs.

In 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Diwali with troops at the same location, visiting the Longewala Post in Rajasthan. This year, he continued the tradition by spending time with soldiers at Lakki Nala in Gujarat's Sir Creek on Thursday. During his visit, PM Modi praised the dedication and commitment of the soldiers stationed in challenging conditions and expressed gratitude on behalf of India's 1.4 billion citizens for their courage in defending the nation.

"On this sacred land near Sir Creek, it is my privilege to celebrate Diwali with you. When I celebrate with you, the joy of Diwali multiplies. This Diwali is special as Lord Ram has finally returned to his temple in Ayodhya," he said, noting the symbolism of this year's festival.

"You serve in regions where temperatures drop below zero in the mountains and where searing heat and desert storms test your resilience. Your dedication shines like steel, intimidating any enemy who attempts to challenge us," he said.
