Indian Sikh woman Sarabjeet Kaur alleges harassment after marrying a Pakistani Muslim man during a pilgrimage. Hear her plea to return home. Click for details on this complex story.

An Indian Sikh woman from Punjab, who travelled to Pakistan last year as part of a religious pilgrimage and later married a local Muslim man, is now seeking to return home after alleging harassment and abuse, according to officials and a viral audio clip circulating on social media.
Sarabjeet Kaur (48) had entered Pakistan in November last year with nearly 2,000 Sikh pilgrims through the Wagah border to attend Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrations. While the rest of the pilgrims returned to India, Kaur stayed back and later married Nasir Hussain, a resident of Sheikhupura district near Lahore, a day after her arrival.
Her disappearance had raised concern among Indian authorities and family members, before Lahore police confirmed the interfaith marriage.
Arrested and sent to shelter home
According to a Punjab government source, Kaur was later arrested by Pakistani authorities and shifted to Darul Aman, a government-run shelter home in Lahore. This came despite the Lahore High Court ordering police not to harass the couple after they filed a petition alleging intimidation.
“The authorities already made an attempt to deport Kaur but failed due to the closure of the Wagah-Attari border,” the official told PTI, adding that Hussain remains in police custody.
Viral audio clip reveals distress
An emotional audio clip, purportedly featuring Kaur, has now gone viral online. In the recording, she is allegedly speaking to her ex-husband and claims she is being harassed by her husband and his family, pleading to return to India.
“I am being harassed here. I cannot live without my children... Please take me back,” she is heard saying.
She also asks the man to promise he will not hurt her when she returns home. The authenticity of the clip has not been independently verified by Mathrubhumi.
Another viral video of Sarabjeet accepting Nikah happily
Earlier, Kaur approached the Indian High Commission in Islamabad seeking a visa extension and had also applied for Pakistani citizenship. She said she willingly converted to Islam, adopted the name Noor, and married Hussain.
“I am a divorcee and wanted to marry Hussain. I came here for that purpose,” she said. “I happily married him.”
However, her recent claims of harassment mark a dramatic turn in her journey.
