Government schools across Himachal Pradesh will remain open on August 15, 2026, with students, teachers and staff instructed to take part in official Independence Day celebrations.

The Himachal Pradesh government has directed all government schools in the state to remain open on August 15 to mark Independence Day celebrations.
The order was issued by the Directorate of Higher Education, Himachal Pradesh, and instructs school authorities to ensure participation of students, teachers and staff in official events organised at tehsil, subdivision and district headquarters.

Deputy Directors of School Education (Secondary and Elementary) and principals of Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS) complexes have been asked to ensure implementation of the directive.
Schools to participate in official celebrations
According to the government order, schools will function on Independence Day and participate in programmes organised by local administrations.
Education authorities have been asked to coordinate with schools to ensure smooth arrangements and proper participation in the celebrations.
The directive emphasises that Independence Day programmes should be conducted with discipline, dignity and respect while encouraging the values of patriotism and national unity among students.
The government said the participation of students and teachers is important for organising Independence Day events across the state.
