Bhopal: Students of the Regional School in Bhopal staged a protest against a proposed merger of the Demonstration Multipurpose School (DMS) with the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), saying the move could affect the institution's original purpose of educational innovation and experimentation.

The students gathered outside the school and raised slogans opposing the proposed merger. They said the Regional Schools were established as experimental institutions to develop innovative teaching practices and explore new approaches to education.

The Demonstration Multipurpose Schools, also known as Regional Schools, have functioned under the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) since December 1965. Four such schools were established in Bhopal, Ajmer, Mysuru and Bhubaneswar.

Students and members associated with the Bhopal institution said shifting the school under the KVS could alter its distinctive identity and administrative structure. They also expressed concern that the change could affect the academic experiments and innovative teaching methods for which the schools were originally established.

The protesting students said they would oppose the proposed merger and raised slogans demanding that the institution retain its existing character.

Following the demonstration, the students submitted a memorandum to Regional College principal Professor S K Gupta, formally recording their objections and demands.

The development came amid a nationwide appeal received on the protests led by CJP. The massive protest led by CJP from June to July, which culminated in the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan as Union Education Minister, also saw support from various political parties, including AAP, Samajwadi Party
