Former Haryana Assembly deputy speaker Gopichand Gahlot has been booked for allegedly conspiring to take possession of a flat belonging to ex-Meham MLA Balbir Singh, police said.

Haryana: Gurugram Police have registered a case against former Haryana Assembly deputy speaker Gopichand Gahlot on charges of conspiring to usurp a flat belonging to ex-Meham MLA Balbir Singh.
According to officials, the case was filed after the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) investigated the matter and recommended the registration of an FIR. The complaint, lodged by Balbir Singh, accuses Gahlot of transferring his flat to Virendra Rana, who had contested as the INLD candidate for the Gurgaon Lok Sabha seat in 2019, allegedly through a conspiracy.
The FIR was registered at Sector 29 police station on Monday following the EOW’s recommendation.
Gahlot has dismissed the allegations, calling them “baseless”. A senior police officer confirmed that the case is now under investigation by the EOW.
The property dispute between Gahlot and Singh surfaced after the latter alleged that Gahlot had fraudulently arranged for the ownership transfer of his flat without consent. Singh claims that the transaction involved Virendra Rana, the 2019 INLD Lok Sabha candidate from Gurgaon, and alleged a deliberate plot to take over his property.
Police said the Economic Offences Wing reviewed evidence submitted by Singh before recommending an FIR. The case, now registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code related to cheating and criminal conspiracy, is being investigated further.
Officials have not disclosed the location or value of the disputed flat, but the investigation will examine property documents and witness statements.
Gahlot, who has previously served as the deputy speaker of the Haryana Assembly, maintained that the allegations were politically motivated. The EOW continues to collect evidence and verify property records as part of the ongoing probe.
