New Delhi: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday accused the Congress of attempting to undermine India's Constitution and democratic institutions, alleging that the party was working with outside forces. His remarks came amid escalating tensions between the BJP and Opposition parties over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

In a strongly worded post on X, Rijiju described the Congress as a party controlled by one family and challenged it to answer five questions concerning past election results, the appointment of Election Commissioners and objections to the ongoing voter roll revision exercise.

"One family party with outside forces is trying to destroy the Constitution and Indian Democracy," Rijiju wrote.

The Union Minority Affairs Minister questioned the Congress over its poor performance in previous Lok Sabha elections, including the 2014 and 2024 polls, while drawing attention to the appointment of Election Commissioners during different governments.

"I challenge the Congress party to answer the basic questions: 1. How did Congress get only 44 MPs in 2014 Lok Sabha election when Election Commissioners were appointed by their Govt? 2. When Gyanesh Kumar was not CEC in 2024, how did Congress face a hat-trick defeat?" he said.

Rijiju also questioned the legitimacy of the Congress's objections to the SIR exercise, asking whether the party supported removing ineligible entries from electoral rolls.

"3. Will present Congress CMs resign & also apologise for forming the Govts during 2014 to 2026? 4. Should all the names in voter lists who are illegal immigrants, dead, shifted or duplicate be removed from the voter list or not? 5. Were SIRs carried out in 1952-56, 1958-61, 1965-66, 1983-84, 1987-88, 1993, 1995, and 2002-2004 illegal?" he added.

His comments come as the Congress and other Opposition parties continue to raise allegations of irregularities in the SIR process. The electoral roll revision has become a major political flashpoint, with Opposition leaders questioning its implementation and the BJP defending the exercise.

INDIA bloc plans protest against CEC Gyanesh Kumar

The latest confrontation comes ahead of a series of Opposition programmes targeting the Election Commission and the Centre.

Leaders of the INDIA bloc are scheduled to hold a public impeachment programme against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at 3.30 pm on Saturday at the residence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge at 10, Rajaji Marg, New Delhi.

The programme is part of the Opposition's intensifying campaign over alleged irregularities in the electoral roll revision exercise.

Rahul Gandhi announces march ahead of November 1 rally

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has urged people to join a march in Delhi on Sunday ahead of the INDIA bloc's mega rally at Ramlila Maidan.

In a post on X announcing the march, Gandhi wrote, "See you tomorrow, let's walk together."

According to the route shared by the Congress leader, the march will begin at the Minto Road junction near Connaught Place at noon on November 1.

Participants are expected to proceed towards Ajmeri Gate before reaching Ramlila Maidan, where the Opposition alliance is scheduled to hold its rally.

However, Delhi Police sources said that no permission had been sought for the proposed march from the Connaught Place area.
