Uttar Pradesh: The political landscape in Sishamau Assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh has become contentious as Samajwadi Party candidate Naseem Solanki faces backlash for participating in religious rituals at a temple during the Diwali festivities. Following this, a fatwa has been issued against her by Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Rizvi Barelvi, the National President of All India Muslim Jamaat.

The controversy erupted after a video emerged showing Solanki performing Jalabhishek and lighting a lamp on a Shivling at a local temple. In response, temple priests and committee members reportedly purified the site using Gangajal, further intensifying the debate.

The situation escalated as public interest grew, particularly regarding the implications of her actions for her political campaign. As the religious and political dimensions of this incident continue to unfold, both supporters and critics are closely monitoring the developments. The community is abuzz with discussions about the intersection of faith and politics, and how this controversy may impact Solanki's bid for election in a sensitive electoral climate.

Naseem Solanki is the spouse of Irfan Solanki, who previously held the Sisamau assembly seat but was disqualified after being sentenced to seven years in prison for arson, leading to the current vacancy. The fatwa emphasises that, according to Islamic law, idol worship is strictly prohibited. Maulana Rizvi stated that engaging in such practices is deemed unacceptable, urging Solanki to repent and reaffirm her faith by reciting the Kalma.
