Emirates has begun operating a retrofitted Boeing 777 with its latest Premium Economy and refreshed cabins on the Mumbai–Dubai route starting today. The upgrade covers 22 weekly flights, giving Mumbai travellers immediate access to a roomier mid-cabin option and a more consistent onboard experience on connections via Dubai.

What can Mumbaikars expect on the new cabin?

  • More space & comfort: Premium Economy offers wider seats, deeper recline, generous legroom, and an upgraded dining experience, ideal for travellers who want more comfort than Economy without paying Business Class fares. (Product introduced as part of Emirates’ latest cabin retrofit programme.)
  • Smoother connections via Dubai: With more Emirates flights now featuring the same cabin standard (including A350s and refurbished A380s/777s), Mumbai passengers are more likely to enjoy a consistent cabin product across sectors on long-haul itineraries.
  • More availability: The 22 weekly Mumbai services using the retrofitted 777 expand access to Premium Economy seats out of India’s busiest business hub.

Introduction of the Premium Economy on the Mumbai-Dubai route marks a perfect strategic game plan for Emirates, as this route offers heavy India-UAE traffic with India being Dubai International Airport’s top market. The route saw approximately 5.9 million passengers travel to and fro during H1, 2025, underscoring sustained demand for business, VFR (visiting friends & relatives), and tourism.

Besides, the Mumbai–Dubai is India’s busiest international city pair. OAG data shows Mumbai–Dubai at the top by scheduled seats among India’s international routes—supporting the case for a higher-comfort cabin tier on this corridor.

UAE airports handled 75.4 million passengers in H1 2025, reflecting wider regional demand that feeds Emirates’ network and justifies cabin upgrades on high-volume routes like Mumbai.

Today’s Mumbai deployment sits within Emirates’ broader plan to “layer on” next-gen A350s and retrofitted A380s/777s across key regional routes, expanding the airline’s Premium Economy footprint to millions of seats by end-2025.

Apart from Mumbai, some of the other routes getting upgrades are Amman with four-class A380 with Premium Economy on EK903/904 from October 26, 2025, Muscat with A350 on all 9 weekly flights from October 30, 2025 (including EK862/863 Thu & Sat) and Bahrain with an Additional retrofitted B777 on EK833/834 every Thursday from December 4, 2025.

From today, Mumbai flyers on Emirates can book a genuinely upgraded mid-cabin that combines comfort and value that is well-suited to a route with some of India’s strongest international demand, and enjoy better continuity of product on onward connections through Dubai.
