TN CM Stalin urges public to avoid rumours and slander on Karur stampede, calls for unity and responsible behaviour.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has urged the public to refrain from spreading rumours or misinformation on social media regarding the recent stampede in Karur, which claimed 41 lives on September 27.
Calling the incident a "great tragedy”, the Chief Minister said it was a time for solidarity and compassion, not division. “The victims of the incident should not be viewed as those belonging to a particular party but ought to be seen as fellow Tamils,” Stalin said in a video statement shared on his official account on ‘X’.
Stalin recalled the emotional weight of the tragedy and said that upon receiving information, he immediately mobilised the district administration and rushed to Karur.
“What happened in Karur was a great tragedy. My heart is heavy due to the great sorrow. After mobilising the district administration immediately after receiving the information, I could not remain in Chennai. I rushed to Karur to console the victims,” he said in the message.
The Chief Minister also expressed concern over the content circulating online regarding the incident.
“Do not spread rumour, don’t slander on the social media about the tragedy in Karur. Everyone should behave responsibly,” he urged.
Stalin further emphasised the importance of handling such incidents with sensitivity and cautioned against politicising the event or targeting individuals based on party affiliations.
