India’s domestic LPG supply remains stable despite West Asia disruptions, with panic bookings declining and priority allocation ensured for hospitals, schools, and key sectors.

New Delhi: The Centre on Sunday said domestic LPG supply in India remains stable, with panic bookings declining, even as global energy markets face disruptions due to the Middle East conflict.
According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the delivery of LPG cylinders continues without disruption, while commercial LPG allocation to states has been increased to meet rising demand.
Priority supply for hospitals, institutions and key sectors
The government said educational institutions and hospitals are receiving priority, accounting for nearly 50 per cent of total commercial LPG allocation. An additional 20 per cent supply is being directed to restaurants, dhabas, hotels, industrial canteens, dairy units and food processing sectors, ensuring continuity in essential services.
States have also been advised to accelerate the rollout of PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connections for both domestic and commercial users to reduce dependence on LPG cylinders.
No fuel shortage, crackdown on hoarding
The government reiterated that there are no reports of fuel ‘dry-outs’ at retail outlets, with adequate stocks of petrol, diesel and LPG maintained across the country. Authorities have intensified raids against LPG hoarding and black marketing to prevent artificial shortages.

Measures to ensure energy security
In response to disruptions linked to the Strait of Hormuz, the government has taken steps to secure supply chains. Refineries are operating at high capacity, supported by sufficient crude oil inventories, while domestic LPG production has been maximised.
Officials emphasised that India continues to maintain stable fuel logistics and supply chains, urging citizens to avoid panic buying.
PNG, CNG supply remains uninterrupted
On the natural gas front, 100 per cent supply of domestic PNG for cooking and CNG for vehicles is being maintained. Supplies to industrial and commercial consumers connected to the gas grid are currently at about 80 per cent of average consumption levels.
City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies, including Indraprastha Gas Limited, Mahanagar Gas Limited, GAIL Gas Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, have been directed to prioritise PNG connections for commercial establishments. Incentives are also being offered to accelerate adoption.
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has instructed CGD operators to fast-track new gas connections, reducing the time between application and supply. States and Union Territories have been asked to expedite approvals for expanding the CGD network.
Govt urges public to avoid panic buying
The Centre said it is closely monitoring developments in West Asia and remains prepared to respond to any supply disruptions. Consumers have been advised not to engage in panic buying, as fuel availability remains adequate and supply chains are functioning normally.
