Kolkata: An internal probe committee investigating allegations of a "threat culture" at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital has submitted its report, recommending strong disciplinary action against 37 individuals. The committee looked into complaints against a total of 59 people, including both senior and junior doctors, who were accused of creating a “threat culture” within the hospital.
Sources indicate that while severe penalties are suggested for 37 individuals, moderate action is recommended for 16 others, and six will be placed under monitoring.

This development comes as junior doctors, represented by the West Bengal Junior Doctors' Forum (WBJDF), have intensified their cease-work protests in response to the recent rape and murder of a colleague at R.G. Kar. The forum has presented a fresh set of 10 demands, prominently addressing the issue of the "threat culture" within the institution.
"Inquiry committees must be established in every medical college to investigate those involved in threat syndicates and punish them. An inquiry committee must also be formed at the state level," the WBJDF demanded.
Some doctors implicated in the allegations have already been suspended by the West Bengal Medical Council, and a few others face suspension from state medical services by the health department. Many of these doctors were known to be close associates of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R.G. Kar, who is currently in judicial custody related to the rape and murder case.
Additionally, two separate investigations are ongoing against Ghosh: one regarding the rape and murder case and the other concerning financial irregularities at R.G. Kar.
