Kolkata: Sources on Thursday say that contradictory statements were made by a forensic surgeon and an autopsy assistant during their questioning by the CBI regarding the post-mortem of R.G. Kar, the victim of a rape-murder case. Both were interrogated on Wednesday, and the inconsistencies in their accounts have raised suspicions among investigators about serious errors in the autopsy report and the overall procedure.

During their lengthy questioning, officials noted major differences in how they described the victim's wounds. Also, the details in the post-mortem report did not match photos taken by one of the victim's classmates shortly before the autopsy, which the investigators have already obtained.

The images have been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CSFL) for further analysis, and officials believe the upcoming report may provide more insights into the case.

The CBI has already identified several procedural mistakes in the autopsy process. Notably, the language used in the post-mortem report was unprofessional and lacked the necessary medical terminology. Furthermore, the autopsy was conducted after sunset, which goes against standard protocols, and the entire procedure was completed in just 70 minutes - an unusually quick timeframe given the case's gravity.
