Delhi-NCR sees cleaner air as strong winds push AQI into the Yellow Zone.

New Delhi: Strong winds sweeping across the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) over the past few days have led to a notable improvement in air quality, with most areas now falling under the moderate category (Yellow Zone). Residents of Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad are breathing cleaner air, although rising temperatures indicate an early onset of summer.
Air quality improves across NCR
According to the latest data from air quality monitoring stations, Delhi’s AQI readings show moderate levels across most locations: 155 in Alipur, 229 in Anand Vihar, 149 in Ashok Vihar, 135 in Aya Nagar, 160 in Bawana, 132 at Burari Crossing, 140 in Cantonment, 181 in Chandni Chowk, 140 at Commonwealth Sports Complex, and 142 in CRRI Mathura Road. While most areas remain in the Yellow Zone, Anand Vihar and Chandni Chowk recorded relatively higher pollution levels.

In Noida, AQI readings were 158 in Sector-125, 141 in Sector-62, 160 in Sector-1, and 160 in Sector-116, reflecting moderate air quality improvements. Similarly, Ghaziabad reported AQI readings of 155 in Indirapuram, 213 in Loni, 173 in Sanjay Nagar, and 159 in Vasundhara, with Loni experiencing higher pollution compared with other areas.
Meteorological impact and rising temperatures
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed the improvement to strong winds, which have dispersed pollutant particles and reduced smog accumulation. However, temperatures continue to rise, signalling the approach of the summer season.

On March 6, the maximum temperature in the region is expected to reach 34°C, with a minimum of 16°C. The forecast for March 7 and 8 predicts a maximum of around 34°C and a minimum rising to 17°C, under mostly clear skies. No weather warnings have been issued.
Residents enjoy temporary relief
Experts note that the drop in pollution levels has brought temporary relief for residents of Delhi-NCR, providing cleaner air since the Holi festival period. The combination of moderate AQI readings and strong winds has eased breathing discomfort, but officials caution that air quality may fluctuate as temperatures climb further in the coming weeks.
