Delhi's worsening air pollution, declining air quality, shrinking green cover, and rapid urbanisation remain major challenges for the national capital. At a recent public dialogue, environmental experts said expanding urban greening, increasing tree plantation, protecting green spaces, and promoting sustainable mobility can play a vital role in reducing pollution alongside existing control measures.

Dr SD Attri, Member (Technical) of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), said the commission has formed a Knowledge Forum on Plantation and Greening with government agencies, environmental experts, NGOs, and private organisations. The forum is providing scientific data and technical guidance to help expand Delhi's urban green infrastructure.

Experts also stressed the importance of citizen participation. Nidhi Madan, Director of Cities and Urban Landscape at the Raahgiri Foundation, urged residents to make sustainable choices by protecting trees, using public transport, and choosing walking or cycling whenever possible.

According to experts, cleaner air will require a combination of science-based planning, stronger urban greening initiatives, and active public participation to preserve and expand Delhi's green spaces.
