
New Delhi: The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to hold a strategic meeting ahead of the assembly session, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, cabinet ministers, and party MLAs preparing to discuss key legislative priorities.
With the Delhi assembly session commencing on February 24, the BJP-led government under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is gearing up to address major legislative issues. The meeting will focus on electing BJP MLA Vijender Gupta as the speaker of the legislative assembly, with Manjinder Singh Sirsa seconding the motion. Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has appointed BJP leader Arvinder Singh Lovely as the protem speaker, ensuring that procedural formalities are completed smoothly before the session begins.
The assembly session will start with the oath-taking ceremony for newly elected MLAs at 11:00 AM, followed by the speaker election at 2:00 PM. On February 25, LG Saxena will address the assembly, after which the 14 pending Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports will be tabled. The motion of thanks on the LG’s address will be moved the next day, setting the stage for key debates in the house.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who took office recently, stated, "In the first Cabinet meeting, we discussed and passed two agendas - to implement in Delhi the Ayushman Bharat scheme with Rs 5 lakh top-up and tabling of 14 CAG reports in the first seating of the Assembly. We will fulfill all the commitments that we have made to the people."
Regarding the healthcare scheme, she said, "The Delhi government will pay for the top-up and will sign a MoU with the Centre." The BJP had previously criticized the AAP government for not implementing Ayushman Bharat, claiming it denied Delhiites access to the Centre’s flagship health scheme.
She also announced that her government would table the long-pending CAG reports, which were not presented by the previous administration. "We will fulfill all the commitments that we have made to the people," she reiterated.
The upcoming session will also include the discussion and response to the LG’s address, which is scheduled for February 26 at 11:00 AM. The election for the Deputy Speaker of the Delhi assembly will follow. According to the Delhi assembly bulletin, "Notice of motion for the election of the speaker can be given up to Saturday, February 22, 2025, before noon to the secretary, legislative assembly.
