A massive security sweep was launched at the Delhi Legislative Assembly on Tuesday after a series of alarming bomb threat emails were sent to Speaker Vijender Gupta and the Assembly’s official accounts. The threats, which also mentioned a potential strike at the Vidhan Sabha Metro Station, specifically named several top leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

According to police officials, the emails were received early morning, with the first reaching the Assembly's inbox at 7:28 am and a second reaching the Speaker's personal account at 7:49 am. The contents of the messages reportedly contained provocative language and named other high-profile figures such as External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

Immediately following the alerts, a sniffer dog squad and the bomb disposal unit were deployed to the Vidhan Sabha premises. While no suspicious objects have been found so far, security remains on high alert.

Budget session continues despite threats

The threats come at a crucial time as Chief Minister Rekha Gupta recently kick-started the budget process with the traditional ‘Kheer Ceremony,’ outlining a vision for a ‘Viksit Delhi’ (Developed Delhi). Despite the morning's panic, the government has signalled that the legislative proceedings will continue under tightened security protocols.
