The amount will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of farmer beneficiaries whose crops have suffered damage due to weather or natural disasters.

Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan will transfer ₹3,200 crore in crop insurance claims on Monday to over 30 lakh farmers across the country.
The distribution will take place during a programme in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district, held under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).
The amount will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of farmer beneficiaries whose crops have suffered damage due to weather or natural disasters.
State-wise breakdown of funds
According to an official statement, the claim amount will be distributed as follows:
- ₹1,156 crore to farmers in Madhya Pradesh
- ₹1,121 crore to farmers in Rajasthan
- ₹150 crore to farmers in Chhattisgarh
- ₹773 crore to farmers in other states
Joining Chauhan at the event will be Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Union Minister of State for Agriculture Bhagirath Chaudhary, and Rajasthan’s Agriculture Minister Kirori Lal Meena.
Faster settlements and penalties for delays
The Union Minister highlighted the government’s adoption of a new, simplified claim settlement system under PMFBY. Under this mechanism, proportional claim payments will be made based solely on the central government's subsidy contribution, without waiting for the state’s share.
From the Kharif 2025 season onwards, strict penalties will be enforced:
A 12% penalty will be levied on state governments that delay their subsidy contribution
A 12% penalty will also be imposed on insurance companies that delay disbursing approved claims
PMFBY launched in 2016
Launched in 2016, PMFBY is a central government initiative to insure farmers against crop loss due to extreme weather, natural disasters, and other unforeseen circumstances. Farmers pay a nominal premium, while the remaining amount is covered by the central and state governments.
Since its inception, claims worth ₹1.83 lakh crore have been settled under PMFBY, while farmers have contributed just ₹35,864 crore in premiums.
