New Delhi: In what is being hailed as one of the fastest-growing internet phenomena in the history of Indian political discourse, a satirical political movement has turned the digital landscape upside down.

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), launched just days ago, has officially crossed 9 million followers on Instagram, effectively surpassing the official Instagram handle of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which stands at approximately 8.7 million followers.

What started as a hyper-ironic internet joke has rapidly evolved into a massive Gen-Z-driven digital rebellion, leaving mainstream political strategists stunned.

The Spark: From Judicial Insult to Internet Anthem

The movement was born on May 16, 2026, by Abhijeet Dipke, a former social media worker for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), currently studying at Boston University.

The "party" was formed as a swift, satirical retaliation to controversial remarks made during a Supreme Court hearing on May 15. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant reportedly likened unemployed youth who enter fields like media, social media, and RTI activism to "cockroaches" and "parasites" attacking the system. Though the CJI later clarified that his comments were misquoted and targeted specifically at individuals operating with fake degrees rather than the youth at large, the internet had already taken the insult and run with it.

Dipke launched an online sign-up form, inviting India's frustrated youth to "own the title." The eligibility criteria? To be "unemployed, lazy, chronically online, and possess the ability to rant professionally." Within hours, the form received tens of thousands of submissions. By May 21, the CJP’s official website recorded more than 350,000 registered members.

Surpassing the "World's Largest Party"

The growth of the Cockroach Janta Party on Instagram has been nothing short of meteoric. The account, opened on May 17, crossed 3 million followers in 78 hours, 6.6 million by its third day, and comfortably blew past the 9 million mark on May 20.

To put this in perspective, the BJP’s official handle (@bjp4india) has shared over 18,000 posts to accumulate its 8.7 million followers. The CJP bypassed that number in less than 100 hours with just over 50 posts.

"Don’t underestimate the power of youth," the CJP posted to its Instagram stories, mocking mainstream political jargon. "‘World’s largest party,’ they said." Netizens have flooded comment sections with satirical slogans like "Abki baar, 10 million paar."
