Chennai: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief C. Joseph Vijay, who has now been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, set the tone for his administration with a strong message on integrity and governance during his first address after taking oath.

Vijay made it clear that his government would not tolerate misuse of power or corruption, stating, “I won’t do wrong or let wrong be done.”

Sending a direct warning against expectations of privilege or entitlement after coming to power, he said, “If anyone thinks we just got into power now we will take [privilege of it], I’m telling you now and here erase that thoughts from your mind. That won’t happen.”

Outlining his approach to governance, CM Vijay said he would closely examine the functioning of the state administration and review existing systems. He remarked, “I am gonna get inside and see what is the state of our govt, what all is there and what not,” indicating a detailed internal review of government operations.

According to his first official announcements after assuming office, the new Chief Minister also initiated key administrative steps, including welfare and governance-focused measures. These include proposals such as 200 units of free electricity, formation of special task forces to tackle drugs and ensure women’s safety, and a commitment to improving transparency in governance.

He also indicated plans to bring financial clarity through a white paper on state finances, stating that his administration would move forward with openness and accountability.

Taking a sharp political tone, Vijay also referred to past governance issues, accusing previous regimes of burdening the state with significant debt, and stressed that his government would not mislead people with false promises.

In his address, CM Vijay also emphasised that his rise was not rooted in political legacy, stating that he was accepted and elected by the people, reinforcing his image as a leader backed by public mandate rather than dynasty politics.

The speech marks the beginning of his tenure as Tamil Nadu’s 13th Chief Minister, following a historic election outcome that brought TVK to power for the first time in the state’s political history.
