A high-adrenaline bungee jump in Rishikesh spiralled into a chilling disaster after the rope snapped mid-fall, sending a young man crashing into a tin shed as horrified spectators screamed from the platform above.

The incident, captured in a now-viral video shared by content creator Sujal Thakral, shows 24-year-old Sonu Kumar, a BA student from Gurgaon, leaping off the edge at Thrill Factory Adventure Park—only for the bungee cord to fail in a split second, turning the thrill ride into a life-threatening plunge.

The video, captioned “Bungee jumping live incident caught on camera in Rishikesh,” has triggered shockwaves online, raising immediate concerns about the glaring safety lapses at one of India's most popular adventure destinations.

Victim Left Without Medical Support

According to Thakral, who filmed the terrifying moment, the accident site had no ambulance, no medical personnel, and no emergency preparedness, forcing him to personally rush the severely injured Sonu to AIIMS-Rishikesh.

Doctors have reported serious fractures to Sonu’s chest and left arm. His condition remains critical.

Questions Over Negligence

Thakral also alleged that while visitors are made to sign safety declarations before the jump, operators are quick to wash their hands of responsibility when something goes wrong.

The viral footage has ignited debates about the unregulated and often reckless adventure setups in Rishikesh, where thousands flock every year for bungee jumping, giant swings, rafting, and other high-risk activities.

Public Outrage Erupts

Instagram users slammed the sheer absence of safety infrastructure.

Comments ranged from fear to fury:

“It’s a matter of when, not if, fatal accidents happen in India’s adventure tourism,” wrote one user. “He must file a case. Total negligence,” another said. “No safety net? This is the worst nightmare for any jumper.”

The video, posted on November 13, 2025, has already crossed 3 lakh likes, sending shockwaves across social media.

As authorities face growing pressure, questions loom large: How many more close calls—or tragedies—will it take before Rishikesh’s thrill rides are brought under strict safety scrutiny?
