Choudhary’s triumph comes after a 15-year hiatus from contesting the seat, a notable return for the Bihar BJP leader

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged victorious in the Tarapur Assembly Constituency, securing a decisive win with 122,480 votes. He triumphed over his nearest rival, Arun Kumar of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), who garnered 76,637 votes, giving Choudhary a commanding margin of 45,843 votes. Santosh Kumar Singh of the Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) finished in third place with just 3,898 votes, trailing far behind by over 118,000 votes.
The final vote count in the Tarapur constituency concluded around 6 pm, solidifying Choudhary's victory in this critical political battleground. This win marks a significant achievement for the NDA, which was leading in several constituencies during the vote-counting process.
The Tarapur seat, located in Bihar’s Munger district, forms part of the Jamui parliamentary constituency. The area saw 65.22% voter turnout during the polls, which were held in two phases on November 6 and 11. Tarapur has long been a significant seat, witnessing high-profile political battles due to its historical importance.
Choudhary’s triumph comes after a 15-year hiatus from contesting the seat, a notable return for the Bihar BJP leader. His father, Shakuni Choudhary, had also represented Tarapur in the Bihar Assembly in the past, first as an Independent in 1985, and later as a member of the Indian National Congress in 1990. The Choudhary family has had a longstanding presence in the region, making the seat a key stronghold for the BJP.
In the 2020 elections, the Tarapur seat was held by the Janata Dal (United), with Mewa Lal Choudhary winning with 64,468 votes, defeating RJD’s Divya Prakash by 7,225 votes. Following Mewa Lal’s passing in 2021, JD(U)’s Rajeev Kumar Singh won the seat in a by-election with 79,090 votes, defeating RJD’s Arun Shah by 3,852 votes. This marked the continuation of JD(U)’s stronghold over the constituency for 15 years.
In the current election, BJP’s Samrat Choudhary faced off against RJD’s Arun Shah, who had previously contested the 2021 by-election without success. The contest also included candidates from the Aam Aadmi Party and the Jan Suraaj Party, though none of these challengers were able to mount a significant challenge to Choudhary’s popularity in the region.
This result further strengthens the NDA’s position in Bihar, as they look to build on their momentum following the vote counting. As the state’s political landscape continues to shift, Tarapur’s outcome remains symbolic of the ongoing battle for control in Bihar’s Assembly, with Choudhary’s victory reinforcing the BJP’s influence in the region.
