Counting of votes for the Barpeta (SC) Assembly constituency in Assam concluded on Monday as part of the statewide counting exercise for all 126 seats of the Assam Legislative Assembly. The counting process, which began at 8 am with postal ballots followed by EVM verification, was conducted under strict security arrangements across designated centres.
In the final result, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) candidate Dipak Kumar Das secured victory in the constituency, defeating Independent candidate Gagan Chandra Haloi by a margin of 47,402 votes. With this, the counting process in the seat came to a close after a closely monitored tabulation of votes.
Barpeta (SC) is an Assembly constituency located in Assam’s Barpeta district and forms part of the Barpeta Lok Sabha constituency. The seat covers Barpeta town along with surrounding areas including Barpeta, Sarukhetri, and parts of Chenga, reflecting a mix of urban and rural demographics.

2021 election outcome
In the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, the Barpeta (SC) seat was won by the Indian National Congress. The party’s candidate, Abdur Rahim Ahmed, secured 111,083 votes. The Asom Gana Parishad candidate, Gunindra Nath Das, finished as the runner-up with 66,364 votes. The victory margin was 44,719 votes.
Abdur Rahim Ahmed received a vote share of 61.04 percent, while Gunindra Nath Das secured 36.47 percent. The contest also included several other candidates, though their vote shares remained limited. Earlier election cycles have also seen the Congress maintain dominance in this constituency despite multi-party contests.
