Bengaluru: The city woke up to a soggy and chaotic morning on Thursday as heavy overnight rains led to widespread waterlogging and severe traffic congestion. With the monsoon making a strong return, daily life across the city took a hit, and more rain is expected in the coming days.

The Bengaluru City Traffic Police issued several alerts early in the day, warning commuters about slow-moving traffic in multiple parts of the city due to stagnant rainwater.

Traffic officials reported delays in both directions between Vaddarapalya and Hennur, as well as between Vaddarapalya and Geddalahalli. Rainwater accumulation also slowed down movement on the service road from Ramamurthy Nagar heading towards Kasturi Nagar.

Weather department forecasts more rain

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the wet spell will continue across Bengaluru for the rest of the week. The city is likely to experience more rainfall along with thundershowers over the next few days.

The recent downpour marks the active return of the southwest monsoon and has already caused disruptions to air travel.

Alerts across Karnataka

The IMD has also issued rainfall warnings for various parts of Karnataka. Heavy rain is expected in areas such as Bangalore Rural, Tumkur, Chitradurga, Davangere, Koppal, Bagalkot, and Belagavi.

An orange alert has been sounded in districts including Uttara Kannada, Haveri, Shivamogga, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Gadag, Dharwad, Chikkamagaluru, and Belagavi, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

In addition, a yellow alert is in place for parts of North Interior Karnataka. This includes Bagalkot, Belagavi, Bidar, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura, and Yadgir. These regions may see isolated heavy rainfall along with gusty winds, the IMD warned.
