Bengaluru: A man was arrested at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru for allegedly attempting to attack two men with a sickle, officials said. The accused has been identified as Sohail Ahmed, in his 40s, who works as a cab driver at the airport.
According to police, the incident stems from a personal dispute earlier on November 16. Around 1:30 am, Ahmed was allegedly involved in a confrontation with taxi drivers Jagdish JR, Renu Kumar, and Gangadhar Angadi. Later the same day, at approximately 11:59 pm, Ahmed reportedly returned to the airport armed with a sickle and tried to attack the drivers near the Arrival Lane of Terminal 1.
The attempt was swiftly thwarted by beat police personnel from the airport station and on-duty CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) officials. CCTV footage confirmed that the accused charged toward the drivers with the weapon, causing panic among nearby passengers and staff. Acting quickly, ASI (Executive) Sunil Kumar and his team overpowered Ahmed and recovered the sickle before anyone could be harmed.
The accused, along with the taxi drivers involved in the earlier confrontation, was handed over to KIA Police for further legal action.
