New Delhi: Anju Modi, the mother of Bengaluru engineer Atul Subhash, who died by suicide on December 9, has approached the Supreme Court seeking custody of her 4-year-old grandson. The child’s whereabouts remain unknown despite the arrest of Atul’s estranged wife, Nikita Singhania, her mother Nisha, and brother Anurag. All three have been charged with abetment of suicide and are currently in judicial custody.
Atul left behind video and written notes alleging harassment and false accusations by Nikita and her family. Anju Modi filed a habeas corpus petition, claiming that Nikita and her family have not disclosed the child’s location. Nikita reportedly told police that the boy was in a Faridabad boarding school under the care of her uncle, Sushil Singhania. However, Sushil denied any knowledge of the child’s whereabouts.
The Supreme Court, responding to Anju’s plea, has issued notices to the governments of Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, seeking clarity on the situation. The next hearing is scheduled for January 7.
Meanwhile, Subhash’s family has alleged that Nikita and her relatives harassed him with false legal cases and financial demands. The family has vowed not to immerse his ashes until justice is served. Atul’s brother, Bikas Kumar, expressed concerns about the safety of the child, urging authorities to locate him and grant custody to the family.
With the Supreme Court stepping in to address the habeas corpus petition, the focus now shifts to ensuring the safety and well-being of Atul’s missing 4-year-old son.
