Hyderabad: Six individuals who were arrested for attacking actor Allu Arjun’s residence in connection with the Sandhya Theatre stampede issue were granted bail by a city court on Monday.
The arrested members of the Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OU-JAC) were detained by the police on Sunday and presented before a judge at his residence on Monday morning. The judge instructed each of the accused to arrange two sureties of Rs 10,000 each.
The accused were arrested by Jubilee Hills police when they were protesting at the actor’s house. The police then brought them before a magistrate in Vanasthalipuram, Hyderabad.
On Sunday evening, members of the OU-JAC stormed Allu Arjun’s house in Jubilee Hills. They raised slogans demanding justice and barged into the property, causing damage. The protesters were calling for the actor to pay Rs 1 crore in compensation to the family of a woman who tragically died in a stampede at Sandhya Theatre during the premiere of 'Pushpa 2: The Rule'.
According to the police, the protestors, some of whom were holding placards, rushed to Allu Arjun’s house in Jubilee Hills and began chanting slogans. One of them climbed the compound wall and started throwing tomatoes. When security staff intervened and asked them to come down, an altercation ensued. The protesters descended from the wall, manhandled the security staff, and damaged flower pots along the ramp. The protesters continued their demonstration for a while, speaking to media personnel gathered at the gate.
Upon receiving information about the disturbance, the Jubilee Hills Police arrived at the scene and arrested six individuals. All the arrested persons identified themselves as members of the OU-JAC and stated that they were protesting to seek justice and help for the victim's family.
A case has been registered against the six accused and others involved in the incident. SM Vijay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police for the West Zone, stated that stringent legal action would be taken against all those responsible for the unlawful behaviour.
The police officer emphasised that such lawless actions would not be tolerated and promised that legal measures would be enforced against anyone attempting to take the law into their own hands.
